iRTT-AU (Antenna Units) are first mounted on the drill rig. These antenna units then safely detect tags carried by nearby persons (operators, visitor etc) on helmets, belts etc. The crucial measurement is the distance between tagged persons to the carriage (lafette): once this falls beneath a defined threshold value, the iRTT™ device can be set to respond with appropriate measures (reduction of rotation speed, turn-off, etc.
What else should be said about it?
The iRTT-technology is an innovative response to the new DIN EN 16228 “Protection against movable parts” norm. The iRTT™ is a “sensitive protection device” and therefore represents an efficient and practicable alternative to mechanical protection devices (e.g. protective grids). In particular for underground drill jumbos the use of mechanical barriers would seriously obstruct the working process, while some drilling positions would not be reachable anymore.
